Ground Work
Building a healthy church culture
Raising up and developing leaders starts with getting to grips with what church is supposed to be like. For all our grand plans and ideas, we want to lay the ground work – exploring what scripture tell us about the culture of a healthy church. Our hope is, when we continue to learn more about what church is supposed to be like – in God’s eyes – we can do a better job of leading into it.
We gathered all existing and aspiring leaders, for a day on church, culture and leadership. We looked in detail at 1 Thessalonians, which tells us lots of practical and applicable things about what God intends church to look like – how it should look, feel, and grow.
Matt unpacked 1 Thessalonians in five parts:
1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 – Healthy Foundations
1 Thessalonians 2:1-17 – Healthy Church
1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:13 – Healthy Leaders
1 Thessalonians 4:1-12 – Healthy Relationships
1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11 – Healthy Forever

In Part 5, Matt gives an overall Summary of 1 Thessalonians and church culture, inviting us all to discuss the questions below:
- Based on 1 Thessalonians, what IS church? Has your view changed or modified at all?
- What does MCC need to grow in culturally? How can this be achieved?
- What are you excited about after today? Is there anything particular youwant to be involved in?
- Based on today, what is your prayer? How do you want to lead differently? What further teaching, training and encouragement do you need?
As you reflect, share your reflections and comments below. We’d love to continue grappling, sharing and praying together…
Wow! Great stuff but lots to process. I wonder if if might be nice if people post up any thoughts around the questions at the end of part 5 during this week after reflecting /praying?
